The Prodigal Son Luke 15:11-32

This is a parable of a son, who left his father and took all the share of his inheritance from his father. He used his money to women, gambling and all sorts of vices. Eventually, all his money was lost and he then lived a very poor life. He even ate the food of the pigs in order to survive. After experiencing a sad fate he then returned to his father and asked for forgiveness. Without hesitation and with so much love for his lost son he accepted him. A feast was celebrated in his honor.

Message:
The parable reminds us of our unworthiness to receive God’s love despite of our grave sins. How many times we may have offended our Father in heaven yet he still forgives us. This can be manifested in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The sacrament stands as the symbol and our way towards our deeper connection with God. Moreover, the parable reminds us on how we should do reconciliation to others if we have offended someone. As the prodigal son had shown it to us, the first step for reconciliation is humility. The son humbled himself so that he might be forgiven by the father, thus, he tried to apply as a servant in his father’s house. But it didn’t happen since he has found his lost son.
