The Future of Marriage?
“Technology is changing everything.” By 2200, the world seems to have shifted to a new age of thinking and living in contrast from the year of 2012. It is because of technology. Technology has defined everything that human beings wanted and needed for themselves. Almost all of the people are under the influence of technology. Through technology, basic needs like food, water, clothing and shelter are easily engineered.
Poverty has been eradicated abruptly. And even, life expectancy can now extend up to 200 years. The search for truth and happiness is not anymore dependent on religion. Technology provides it all. Spiritual needs of the people do not anymore dependent to religion since the needs became a subjective and relative proprietary of other groups like the government. Religions in other words are not anymore part of any sociological composition of the society but rather it became a taboo in this century. The belief on God is now replaced by technology.

The concept of family in the society of 2200 is less valued as an important unit of society since there wider conception of family was created. It has been extended to the society itself at large. The government take cares the welfare of its member from birth till death. Marriage in this sense has lost its value from spiritual to social then lastly to elimination. Its spiritual significance, like that of the Catholic’s teachings, is diminished. Before it was lost in the lexicon it was made first into a social event then to elimination. Commitment and faithfulness does not matter anymore in this society for what matters are those that one can live happily without worries for the society provides it all. This would be the ugliest and imaginably unimaginable idea of marriage as it was taken away from them by the society. No more marriage.
Does the Roman Catholic religion still exist? Religions, like the Roman Catholic religion, still exist at this time yet they are a minority. They live outside the city-walls of highly modernized civilization. They are considered as outcasts in the society. However, they maintain faithful to their traditions. The sanctity and dignity of marriage in the family is still at the heart and lives of every believer. This also refers to other religions as well. There might still be faithful believers that live in the society yet they hold marriages in secret. For sure, they will always find ways how they can do it secretly. Just like the time of Roman persecution, Christians were meeting in secret by only using the symbol of fish as symbol of their faith. Marriage may be banned by the society, but they can’t stop what the mouth of the heart pleading to the opposite requirement of the society, that is, to re-build the society again by starting to build families through marriages.
This is my wildest imagination of the concept of marriage in the future especially in 2200. I think in this I’ll be somewhere else. It is very difficult predict the future one must have a creative mind to ideally view a future that is full of uncertainties. Marriage may not anymore exist in the highly urbanized society of technology I still believe that there will always be people – true and faithful people – that will still appreciate the spiritual and social significance of marriage in a society. If this will happen, for real, I think this is the best time the parousia of Jesus Christ comes. People are lost at this time. They needed to be guided again.
I strongly hope and believe that this is impossible. God must do something without delay. He must then intervene again in the affairs of mankind to remind them of morality and of Him.
Such is the mystery that binds the future. We may have learned from the past while gladly living in the present circumstance of life yet we remained gazing in the horizon without any certain end point.
